Lions Loss Tough To Swallow

It seems as if they Miami Dolphins were reliving the same game against the Green Bay Packers earlier in the season, the game was back and forth and it even played out the same in the end with the Dolphins winning and the Detroit Lions losing by three points only to end with the lions scoring the winning touchdown. This was a tough game to swallow because although the offense did not play it's best it still had every opportunity to close out the lions and seal the victory. Coach Joe Philbin once again did not convince me to be able to manage or handle pressure when again the same scenario came about, last three minutes of game winning and with lions needing a touchdown he failed to hold onto the ball or waste majority of the clock as he did in the Green Bay Packers game. The defense once again allowed the dolphins to stay in the game while holding an explosive offense to a total of twenty points.

The offensive struggles start in one place and that is up front where the Miami Dolphins were just knocked back and almost surprised by how physical and strong the lions defensive line played. The lions overall did a good job on stuffing the run as between Miller, Thomas and Williams the running backs finished with a total of fifty eight yards combined. The passing game did a little better, but really not until the second half when the adjustment at half time was to double Suh with Satele and Pouncey more often, which allowed quarterback Ryan Tannehill a bit more time to try and locate an open receiver and gave the backs a little more room to work with. Ryan Tannehill overall did not play as bad as you would think, I mean he was under duress for most of the game, was sacked three times, hurried countless times, threw an interception that in all honesty was a good play by the safety who jumped the route and still he finished 27/38 passing for 207 yards an added a  touchdown to Mike Wallace.

The defense or the "Kraken" as I call them continues to play hard for one another and is becoming a theme and a positive one at that in my opinion because shows a maturity in the team. In previous years the defense would seem to give up if the offense continued to struggle and did not show signs of fight, this year it's as if the defense has taken it upon themselves not to allow this team to struggle, win by any means necessary mentality. I continue to preach that this is a playoff caliber defense it is up to the offense to catch up and stay as consistent as the defense, so that they can reach their immediate goal of making the playoffs. Linebacker Jelani Jenkins was all over the field finishing with seven tackles and a sack, he continues to build his resume and show coaches he can play in the league at a high level, then you have defensive end Cameron Wake who was harassing Matthew Stafford all game with pressure and achieving two sacks and the Interception, turnover of the year, so far in my opinion goes to Brent Grimes who snagged himself a one handed leaping interception while covering Calvin Johnson.

The Miami Dolphins will now take on a AFC East opponent who as of late has had their number in the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night football November 13, 2014 at 8pm on NFL Network. This is a big game for both teams, especially coming off losses with both having the record of 5-4 at this point. Lately the Bills have just found a way to decipher the Miami Dolphins defense, the dolphins will just have to find a way to adjust their game plan, throw something at the bills that they are not expecting. Miami's offensive line will once again be tested against the best defensive line statistically in the NFL, except this time they go into battle without their prized free agent acquisition left tackle Branden Albert who was injured in the lions loss and has been ruled out for the season. The rookie Ja'Wuan James will be moving to left tackle and I must say I am pretty confident this young man will do well, he was tested a bit already in the lions game where he actually played pretty well at left tackle. The line will be shuffled a bit for this game, but I have confidence that John Benton offensive line coach will have them ready to go, the other changes will be Dallas Thomas at right tackle and left guard Shelley Smith. This game will once again be decided in the trenches, both teams know that it's a key game and basically a must win, stay tuned for tonights AFC East matchup between these two rivals.
