Lions Loss Tough To Swallow

Posted by;
Anthony Sanchez

It seems as if they Miami Dolphins were reliving the same game against the Green Bay Packers earlier in the season, the game was back and forth and it even played out the same in the end with the Dolphins winning and the Detroit Lions losing by three points only to end with the lions scoring the winning touchdown. This was a tough game to swallow because although the offense did not play it's best it still had every opportunity to close out the lions and seal the victory. Coach Joe Philbin once again did not convince me to be able to manage or handle pressure when again the same scenario came about, last three minutes of game winning and with lions needing a touchdown he failed to hold onto the ball or waste majority of the clock as he did in the Green Bay Packers game. The defense once again allowed the dolphins to stay in the game while holding an explosive offense to a total of twenty points.

The offensive struggles start in one place and that is up front where the Miami Dolphins were just knocked back and almost surprised by how physical and strong the lions defensive line played. The lions overall did a good job on stuffing the run as between Miller, Thomas and Williams the running backs finished with a total of fifty eight yards combined. The passing game did a little better, but really not until the second half when the adjustment at half time was to double Suh with Satele and Pouncey more often, which allowed quarterback Ryan Tannehill a bit more time to try and locate an open receiver and gave the backs a little more room to work with. Ryan Tannehill overall did not play as bad as you would think, I mean he was under duress for most of the game, was sacked three times, hurried countless times, threw an interception that in all honesty was a good play by the safety who jumped the route and still he finished 27/38 passing for 207 yards an added a  touchdown to Mike Wallace.

The defense or the "Kraken" as I call them continues to play hard for one another and is becoming a theme and a positive one at that in my opinion because shows a maturity in the team. In previous years the defense would seem to give up if the offense continued to struggle and did not show signs of fight, this year it's as if the defense has taken it upon themselves not to allow this team to struggle, win by any means necessary mentality. I continue to preach that this is a playoff caliber defense it is up to the offense to catch up and stay as consistent as the defense, so that they can reach their immediate goal of making the playoffs. Linebacker Jelani Jenkins was all over the field finishing with seven tackles and a sack, he continues to build his resume and show coaches he can play in the league at a high level, then you have defensive end Cameron Wake who was harassing Matthew Stafford all game with pressure and achieving two sacks and the Interception, turnover of the year, so far in my opinion goes to Brent Grimes who snagged himself a one handed leaping interception while covering Calvin Johnson.

The Miami Dolphins will now take on a AFC East opponent who as of late has had their number in the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night football November 13, 2014 at 8pm on NFL Network. This is a big game for both teams, especially coming off losses with both having the record of 5-4 at this point. Lately the Bills have just found a way to decipher the Miami Dolphins defense, the dolphins will just have to find a way to adjust their game plan, throw something at the bills that they are not expecting. Miami's offensive line will once again be tested against the best defensive line statistically in the NFL, except this time they go into battle without their prized free agent acquisition left tackle Branden Albert who was injured in the lions loss and has been ruled out for the season. The rookie Ja'Wuan James will be moving to left tackle and I must say I am pretty confident this young man will do well, he was tested a bit already in the lions game where he actually played pretty well at left tackle. The line will be shuffled a bit for this game, but I have confidence that John Benton offensive line coach will have them ready to go, the other changes will be Dallas Thomas at right tackle and left guard Shelley Smith. This game will once again be decided in the trenches, both teams know that it's a key game and basically a must win, stay tuned for tonights AFC East matchup between these two rivals.

Big Win as The Team Stands Behind Their Head Coach Joe Philbin

Posted By;
Anthony Sanchez

This past sunday could not have gone any better for a football team as it did for the Miami Dolphins, the team rallied around their head coach Joe Philbin. If you ever wondered what getting dominated looked like then I hope you watched the Miami Dolphins annihilate the San Diego Chargers thirty-seven to zero. I have to applaud the dolphins on a complete game from preparation throughout the week through quarters one thru four it was complete ownership of another team in every facet of the game. I must also commend and apply might deepest condolences to one Mr. Joe Philbin who even after learning of his fathers passing found a way to gather himself and lead a group of men into battle.

I have to start with the offense and say thank you, that is the team I know you have, obviously will not be thirty-seven to zero every time, but there will be better and more consistent results if they continue to ascend sky's the limit. Ryan Tannehill is to be praised after this win, because if the fans can pile on when things are bleak then let's celebrate him when he does well and provides hope at a position that the team has not had in a while.  The young quarterback threw for 288 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions, while continuing to use his legs to scramble and buy time in the pocket while finding an open receiver. Lamar Miller continues to run well on 11 carries 49 yards and one touchdown , although he did have a slight set back in the second half when he was injured due to shoulder separation, Damien Williams stepped in and as a team finished with 135 yards rushing on the day. The passing game was well distributed hitting ten different receivers most notably tight end Charles Clay five receptions 65 yards one touchdown, rookie wide receiver Jarvis Landry five receptions 46 yards one touchdown, wide receiver Brian Hartline with five receptions 50 yards and contributing with a touchdown catch wide receiver Rishard Matthews. The offensive of line continues to impress already leaps and bounds better than a year ago, the unit continues to open running lanes and allowing time in the pocket for quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The offensive line continues to get better with every passing game, this game allowing zero sacks which in turn allowed Tannehill time to maneuver around the pocket and find open receivers or at times to tuck and run.

The life line of this team is the defense who just comes off pitching a shutout against a pretty good team, offense and quarterback. The defense should be known as the "krakken", because when they release their front seven on any team they swallow you whole and just create pure havoc. The defensive line continues to apply pressure with their front four, as a defense of unit they finished with four sacks coming by; Earl Mitchell, Cameron Wake, Randy Starks and Olivier Vernon. The secondary continues to go under the radar nationally, but the duo of Cortland Finnegan and Brent Grimes at the cornerback position has become a strong point of this team. The secondary came up with three interceptions, Brent Grimes had two of them, while safety Reshad Jones had the other. There is not much else to say that has not been said about this defensive unit, I mean they are fast, ferocious, aggressive, opportunistic and they are just "stronger together".

I am usually the first to say that coach Joe Philbin is unanimated and uninspiring, but this past sunday the coach was all business, showed passion arguing calls, wore his emotions on his sleeve,  I'm sure took inspiration from his dad considering his recent passing, coach fought all game for every inch and I believe that lead his coaches to coach better and motivate their players, I'm sure this lead to the players looking one another in the face asking if coach is here to fight then so were they. The assistant coaches deserve plenty of credit putting together a game plan that worked flawlessly against the Chargers, offensively anything and everything that the Miami Dolphins wanted to do they did whether that meant running or passing and the defense was just swarming, attacking and bottom was just making plays.

The Miami Dolphins have a tough matchup this coming Sunday November 9th against the Detroit Lions, game will be played in Detroit. As per some reports coming out seems like Calvin "Megatron" Johnson will be back, which will pose a challenge for the defense; especially Brent Grimes who will be tasked to cover the receiver. The positive is that just a few games back Brent Grimes had to cover Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jefferey of the Chicago Bears and did quite well where size did not seem to matter. My deepest condolences once again go out to coach Joe Philbin and his family, it never gets easier to lose a loved one at any stage of life.

Review of Sloppy Win Over the Jacksonville Jaguars

Posted By:
Anthony Sanchez

The saying goes a win is a win, but when your offense continues to start of slow that is a bit concerning considering that we are midway through the season. The defense shines again with constant pressure, turnovers and the ability to keep this team competitive in games while the offense struggles. Coach Philbin in my opinion really needs to get a grip on the offensive woes; especially with the background of being an offensive coordinator, one thing is to have a few bad series, but to not even score three points in the first quarter against the Jaguars is alarming. Many players have expressed their concern with the continuous slow starts like Mike Wallace who has been the most vocal and understandably so, considering how much he has been paid to take the top off defenses and it is not happening at the rate it should considering the talent that is Mike Wallace.

I must admit that going into this game I felt this could easily be a trap game; especially with the Jaguars coming off their first victory carrying a pretty hard nose defense that can get after you. The Jaguars defense started the game on fire really applying pressure to Ryan Tannehill and penetrating through the offensive line causing havoc in the backfield, but the Miami Dolphins offensive line did regroup, they helped protect Ryan Tannehill better and did a better job in the run as the game wore on. The part that really gets me about the offense is how there is no identity yet, we have no calling card of who we are it seems as if we wait until the last possible second to try something different to turn the game around, which in turn could be dangerous moving forward with these next four games against the Chargers, Lions, Bills and Broncos. I do not want to sound like we lost, but we did struggle an beat a team that was going into our game at (1-6), so I understand when I hear players like Mike Wallace gripe an express concern. Mike Wallace finished the game with just two catches for fifty nine yards zero touchdowns, the lone touchdown went to wide receiver Rishard Matthews for three yards on that catch. The running game was on and off, but was better in the second half which helped Lamar Miller finish with fourteen carries for 78 yards, Ryan Tannehill five carries for 48 yards and Daniel Thomas four carries for 18 yards, in total the offense produced 13 points, which when they take on the Charges this sunday November 2nd that will not be enough to come out victorious.

The Defense once again is the backbone of this organization I can only tip my cap to them, because despite the offense not producing or pulling their own weight they continue to fight, work and refuse to give up. The defense this past sunday put the team on their back assisting to provide fourteen points off two timely interception returns by safety Louis Delmas and Pro Bowl Cornerback Brent Grimes. The Defensive front once again was all over the opposing quarterback applying pressure, the defense came away with four sacks, one by Reshad Jones, Cameron Wake, rookie Terrence Fede and Jonathan Freeny. At the end of every game I come away with if the offense gets it together the Miami Dolphins legitimately have a playoff type defense that can apply pressure, has done a pretty good job against the run, causes turnovers and for the most part they bend at times but do not break, really not much else to say or comment by far the best unit on the team.

The Dolphins now will take on a team in the San Diego Chargers that can score, can really apply pressure for you to keep up with them and are led by a fiery quarterback in Philip Rivers. This sunday will be a true test to see where this team is at, the positive is that the game will be played here in Miami at Sun Life Stadium at 1:00pm. In my humble opinion I think between coach Joe Philbin and offensive coordinator Bill Lazor have to agree to call more plays down the field take advantage of the weapon that is Mike Wallace we have seen that many cornerbacks can not keep up with him and more often than not he is open for the big play. The only way Ryan Tannehill will get better and more comfortable with the long ball is by repetition in real time when the bullets are flying not in practice where the environment is controlled. I go back again to confidence, because he has the physical tools, the arm strength, the mobility, but when it comes to the long ball it's like he's afraid to make a mistake or at times seems like he wants to drop the perfect pass, but when you have a guy with speed and the hunger to go make big plays you just have to let it fly, see Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, big Ben Roethlisberger, what all those guys have in common is they don't hold back on the deep ball they see it and let it fly to allow their speedsters to go make a play.

In the end there is no secret formula the Miami Dolphins have the talent on both sides of the ball, we go back to the word consistency and that is what the mantra should be for this offensive group stay consistent and within your personnel and the results will take care of themselves. I believe this team can make a run if the offense catches up with the defense, but it does start with the coaching and the ability to adjust, to create, inspire and provide the best opportunities for the players to succeed and flourish. Tune in Sunday to watch the Miami Dolphins take on the San Diego Chargers at 1:00pm and see if they can make it three in a row while also keeping pace with the New England Patriots
(6-2) and Buffalo Bills (5-3).

Great Resolve In Win Against Chicago Bears

Posted By;
  Anthony Sanchez

The Miami Dolphins went into Chicago to take on the Bears and what I witnessed was a team who put it together for all four quarters and showed what kind of team they can be when they are focused and united. The Chicago Bears did not know what hit them from start to end, the Miami Dolphins ran the ball well enough, offensive line did a pretty a good job run and pass blocking, Ryan Tannehill had one of his best games of his young career, the defense again lived up to the hype and the front four did not disappoint overall good job by the defense, the coaching was better and head coach Joe Philbin showed trust in the team by going for it on fourth and one which turned out a big play by Ryan Tannehill. If there is one sore eye to point out was special teams more so, kicker Caleb Sturgis who continues to have the misses and even had his kicked blocked.

It was nice to see a game plan come together as there was tempo, decisiveness, physicalness, the versatility and dynamic play calling. The offense was running how offensive coordinator Bill Lazor envisioned, Ryan Tannehill was 25 of 32 while throwing for 277 yards passing and took advantage of his athletic ability adding 48 yards rushing on six carries; while completing passes to eight different wide receivers. The running backs did well and were efficient Lamar Miller contributed with 61 yards on eighteen carries an a touchdown and Daniel Thomas seven carries for 25 yards. The Wide Receiving unit was efficient and all had a hand in the passing game most notably Charles Clay four receptions 58 yards and one touchdown,  Mike Wallace five receptions 46 yards and one touchdown and the rookie Jarvis Landry four receptions 46 yards. The offensive line showed they can provide balance, in todays game they played solid all game in pass protection and opening up running lanes; especially on key third and fourth downs.

What is there to say about the defense, this unit continues to play hard for one another and game in and game out they give this Dolphins team a chance to win. In the win against the bears the Miami Dolphins stepped up big stuffing the run and playing those big, massive wide receivers as best as you can play them holding Brandon Marshall to six catches 48 yards zero touchdowns and Alshon Jeffery 2 catches 9 yards zero touchdowns. The two only touchdowns that were scored came from running back Matt Forte. The front four hurried and applied pressure all game to Jay Cutler in doing so, Cameron Wake, Louis Delmas and Derrick Shelby each recorded sacks and safety Reshad Jones contributed with the lone interception for the defensive unit.

In the end I say again not much negative to speak about this was a collective team win from start to finish. I have to commend the coaching they went back to the drawing board and did not sulk or point fingers after that tough loss last week versus Green Bay. I saw fire and passion from the players, the coaching staff had a plan and from start to finish it was followed and executed. The frustrating part is this is not a surprise to me that they can play this way, there is all the talent you can want on both sides of the ball, the tough pill to swallow is the inconsistency. We have seen so far in halfs how good the Dolphins can be when they are aggressive, precise and confident, but this game against the Chicago Bears was charge from quarter one thru four and coach Philbin did a better job of allowing his coordinators on both sides of the ball to stay aggressive and not just hold onto a win, but earn a win.

This upcoming sunday the Miami Dolphins will be taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Jacksonville, do not sleep on the Jaguars; especially after coming off their first win of the season against the Cleveland Browns this past sunday. The Jaguars have a first round quarterback starting in Blake Bortles who has shown glimpses of being worthy of a first round pick, Bortles has had his ups and downs but the rookie has held his own and has made plays, so this is a game the Miami Dolphins can not overlook consider this a trap game. The coaching staff must do a good job of not allowing the team to take their opponent for granted, instead must remind them of how nice and smooth it was to play like they did against the Chicago Bears, so that they can come out of Jacksonville with a win and keep pace with the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills for the division.

Follow Up To Tough Loss Against The Green Bay Packers

Posted By;

Anthony Sanchez

The Miami Dolphins prepare to take on the Chicago Bears this week after a tough loss versus the Green Bay Packers, the team showed once again the inconsistency that is frustrating for fans and supporters of the team. Once again there was a Dr. Jekyll and DR. Hyde effect in this game offensive flow was nowhere to be found in the first half, but emerged in the second half, the defense was pretty good overall applying constant pressure on Aaron Rodgers and then the coaching is what leaves you scratching your head and makes you wonder if all this is too much for coach Joe Philbin.

The offense was a tale of two halfs, a very slow, sloppy start to the game where Ryan Tannehill was erratic, inaccurate, play calling was very vanilla, there were dropped passes as we are becoming accustomed with this team and the experiment of having Mike Pouncey at guard was starting to look suspect. The second half kicks off with the Miami Dolphins offensively moving the ball up and down the field with little resistance, the running game came alive, passes were being completed and Ryan Tannehill did a better job at spreading the ball around.

The defense lived up to its billing with another strong performance against a top offense with an elite quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers was harassed, hurried, sacked and pressured all game, the run defense against a bruising running back like Eddie Lacy was outstanding very little production came from their run game. I continue to be impressed with how Jelani Jenkins game has improved with every start an snap, Koa Misi had a nice productive return, safety Reshad Jones return from suspension was welcomed as he was around the ball making plays.

This brings me to my main concern and that is the coaching staff and more so coach Joe Philbin, when games are on the line time and time again it just seems like he buckles under the pressure and or has no confidence in what he wants to do. Prime example in the game against the Packers is with 3:01 left in the game and no timeouts left for the Packers the Miami Dolphins get the ball back and with first, second down they throw the ball removing very little time of the clock and then follow it up with a run which left one of the most dangerous players / quarterback plenty of time to put together a drive. To complete his blunders on the sidelines coach Joe Philbin used time outs while Green Bay was on offense and on a critical fourth down where Packers looked confused and were having trouble getting the play in which after the timeout played out with Aaron Rodgers hitting wide receiver Jordy Nelson for a first down and then you know how the story ends you have a fake spike that gets them close to the goal line and with six seconds left in the game Aaron Rodgers hits his tight end Quarless for the winning touchdown.

In the end the players did all they could to win this game and coach Joe Philbin found a way to give away the victory, it is tough enough to win consistently in the NFL, but when you give away a victory it becomes that much harder to succeed. Stephen Ross and Dennis Hickey will really have to evaluate coach Joe Philbin at the end of the year, but in my opinion it might be time to move on from the experiment the results are just not there. This team has a roster with talent, but it is not maximized or used to the best of their abilities and in my opinion will continue to be that way if coach Joe Philbin sticks around I believe he is a good coordinator, but in no way is he ready to be a head coach and deal with all the decisions that need to be made when the bullets are flying, no disrespect to the coach some coaches are meant to be head coaches and some coordinators. Stay tuned for the Miami Dolphins as they take on the roller coaster Chicago Bears October 19, 2014 at 1pm.

Victory Over Oakland Raiders Review

Posted by:
Anthony Sanchez

The Miami Dolphins were having a tough week leading up to the game in London,England versus the Oakland Raiders all due to mishandling of the quarterback situation by head coach Joe Philbin and riding a two game losing streak. All eyes were on how the Miami Dolphins would bounce back from a lackluster performance starting with Bill Lazor, Ryan Tannehill and the offense as a unit. The team did not disappoint they came out with fire, passion, purpose and they started fast and never looked back.

Ryan Tannehill had a solid outing going 23/31 278 yards two touchdowns & one interception, I saw consistency all game pretty accurate for the most part, he showed off his athleticism by scrambling out of the pocket when he had to, moved well within the pocket, spread the ball around to different receivers and the most important thing I noticed was he threw and played with confidence.

The running backs were effective and helped balance the offense; Lamar Miller ran for 64 yards two touchdowns, Daniel Thomas continues to play well since his return ran the ball hard helping the offense gain 157 yards total rushing as a unit and something I had made an effort to watch for was the blitz pickup which the backs did a good job in helping keep Ryan Tannehill clean.

The wide receivers & tight ends had a very good game, Brian Hartline was more involved this time around hauling in six receptions for 74 yards, Mike Wallace had three receptions for 35 yards one touchdown, Charles Clay had two receptions, Brandon Gibson with two receptions, Rishard Matthews two receptions, second year tight end Dion Sims with one touchdown and rookie receiver Jarvis Landry with four receptions for 38 yards all in all that spells consistency.

The offensive line is to be commended on an outstanding job in both the pass & run blocking, no sacks allowed, very few quarterback pressures, not many penalties, opened running lanes which helped the offense obtain a combined total of 157 yards rushing and in turn allowed the offense to be better balanced and kept the Oakland Raiders on their heels the whole game.

The defensive line unit continues to be the backbone of this team, the defense of line dominated up front causing havoc on rookie quarterback Derek Carr with constant pressure all game long and this unit helped limit the Raiders to just 53 rushing yards total. The linebacking unit which was viewed as a weakness continues to hold its own players like, Jelani Jenkins, Jason Trusnik & Phillip Wheeler all making plays. Jelani Jenkins has proved to be a welcome surprise making plays all over the field, Jason Trusnik played admirably he doesn't wow you, but is a player that knows his assignments and will be in the right spot and then you have Phillip Wheeler playing better his tackling has improved and is playing fast which is the reason he was brought here to fly around use his athleticism to make plays. The secondary as a group was flying around, forcing turnovers, playing aggressive and smothered the Oakland Raider receivers. The first interception of the season was made by pro bowler Brent Grimes followed by two more from Jimmy Wilson and rookie cb/s Walt Aikens and not to be left out making an impactful play was Cortland Finnegan with a fumble recovery that he returned for a touchdown.

The coaching staff deserves credit for this win just as we bash them for bad games we need to recognize improvement and a job well done. Head coach Joe Philbin looked a bit more animated on the sidelines, he seemed a bit more vocal and he looked like a guy that was allowing his coaches to coach. Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor had a great game plan heading in, Ryan Tannehill and the offense executed it beautifully. I noticed the offense of play calling & execution was more aggressive, assertive, confident and plenty more balanced. Defensive Coordinator Kevin Coyle called an aggressive game which did not allow the Oakland Raiders to ever get in an offensive groove. Kevin Coyle did a good job of dialing up zone blitzes and allowed our physical cornerbacks to play more press coverage an frustrate their receivers.

The Miami Dolphins now have a bye week which normally would be considered early, but for this team it is coming at the right time. The team will be welcoming back safety Reshad Jones, Mike Pouncey could be coming back from his injury and the bye also allows other players with injuries to recover. The next match up is a home game versus the Green Bay Packers October 12, 2014 at 1pm, the packers just finished dismantling the Chicago Bears 38-17 behind a very good performance by Aaron Rodgers 302 passing yards with four touchdowns zero interceptions, Jordy Nelson's ten receptions 108 yards receiving along with two touchdowns and do not sleep on the packers defense who pack a pretty good pass rush led by Clay Matthews and are a very opportunistic group that creates turnovers.

Miami Dolphins Post Game Review After Losing To The Kansas City Chiefs

Posted By;

Anthony Sanchez

The Miami Dolphins are now (1-2) coming off the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs this past sunday and there is not enough positive remarks to help salvage this latest loss. Head coach Joe Philbin's demeanor and or lack of aggression is not providing enough motivation to help this team get off to better starts, through the first three games we have been down at the half. The offense is regressing there is no consistency, too many dropped passes, the execution of Bill Lazors offense was dismal, the defensive play was ok and as a whole the coaching in this game was down right bad.

I have reached a point where I can no longer make excuses for Ryan Tannehill, right now mentally he is not where he needs to be as a quarterback you need to have a clock in your head that tells you I need to move and he does not have that ability. Tannehill seems to really be struggling with confidence, accuracy, holding onto the ball too long and does not have the natural instincts a quarterback should have, especially in year three considering he has started since day one here in Miami. The offense as a whole has been inconsistent you can point to dropped passes, average offensive line play although the unit did play better compared to a week ago against Buffalo, missed field goals, third & fourth down offense were horrid, overall just no continuity on offense up to now.

The Defense played well for about three quarters and a half getting after the quarterback with five sacks, forcing a safety, Jelani Jenkins linebacker played well and has shown improvement, defense did a decent job early on in the run game and then it all came crashing down allowing to be gashed with runs, missed tackles, allowing dump passes out of the backfield to running back Joe Mcknight and defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle getting soft and conservative with his calls in the fourth quarter.

The coaching staff as a whole is becoming my biggest pet peeve, there is not just one area of concern anymore with every game so far you see a step in the wrong direction. The philosophy of the offense is an has been inconsistent, head coach Joe Philbin seems to be coaching with caution needs to let loose and be more aggressive. Defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle's play calling in the fourth quarter was suspect, vanilla and just overall soft no excuse with the type of players on that defense. The Miami Dolphins coaching staff really needs to get things in order, I would like to see them make adjustments not just reacting be more proactive before things get out of control.

The next game is Sunday September 28, 2014 in London, England against the Oakland Raiders, the Miami Dolphins must get back to basics on offense, block up front, protect the ball, do not give up on the running game, quarterback play from Ryan Tannehill must improve in the areas of accuracy, third down conversions and would love to see him just let the ball fly stop second guessing himself and worrying about making mistakes. On defense I would like to see defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle really get on these guys about their tackling, lack of turnovers and from him as coach I want to see aggression, stop having the cornerbacks playing so far off the wide receivers and do not be afraid to force the issue with pressure. In the upcoming game versus the Raiders it will be important for the Dolphins to come out of that game victorious going into the bye week at (2-2) and hopefully gaining some momentum.

Miami Dolphins Post Game Review Versus The Buffalo Bills

Posted by;
Anthony Sanchez

The Miami Dolphins reverted back to their old ways on Sunday when they took on the Buffalo Bills the offense struggled with minimal production in the run game, pass protection was average at best, Ryan Tannehill was holding onto the ball too long, not moving around the pocket enough to buy time and the mystery of the deep ball connection continues, there is plenty of blame to go around in this loss starting with the offense, coaching and special teams.

The Miami Dolphins offense was stale to say the least, there was no flow or consistency throughout the game. The injury to Knowshon Moreno early on in the game seemed to be like a punch in the gut because after that the team never showed any grit or fight for the rest of the game offensively. Ryan Tannehill played at a below average level, his throws were continously high an behind wide receivers. Ryan Tannehill's accuracy is really starting to concern me having trouble with the deep ball is one thing, but to start missing wide open receivers is another. Watching his play yesterday I noticed him struggling with his read progressions almost like he is over thinking and over analyzing every throw. Taking a look back at the game you almost see a guy with very low confidence not sure of himself even his body language reflected that with every over throw and under thrown deep ball.

I refuse to place all blame squarely on the shoulders of the quarterback, because there were times Tannehill found an open receiver and they could not come up with the catch or big play in key moments. The offensive line who played outstanding a week ago looked average, especially right guard Shelley Smith who was being pushed around in both running an pass blocking assignments. The offense had no balance to it due to the lack of running lanes, pedestrian pass protection and not enough impactful plays on offense. The special teams play was a nightmare total opposite from a week ago, the Dolphins special teams allowed a punt block, a fumbled punt, a CJ Spiller 102 yard kick off return for a touchdown and Brandon Fields shanked a few punts which is on heard of for him.

The coaching staff starting with head coach Joe Philbin does not get a pass here, in this league you need to have fire, passion and none was shown by the team as a whole. I understand staying calm in the face of adversity, but a deceased person has more life in them compared to what I saw from coach Joe Philbin on Sunday. I am still shaking my head and confused by coach Philbin's decision with roughly over two minutes left before halftime and three time outs to not urge the team to try an add points knowing they would get the ball after halftime as well, instead he chose to run the ball consecutively in turn running out the clock, in my opinion left the chance to build momentum & add points on the field.

If you are looking for a silver lining it has to be the defense, although not its best day still found a way to keep the team in the game. The Miami Dolphins defense held its own considering how often it was placed in bad situations having to defend short fields and the defense bent but did not break mostly giving up field goals. I will say the defense did struggle with defending the crossing routes, dump off plays to the backs and as the game wore on giving up chunks of yardage in the running game.

All in all I would not hit the panic button just yet, in my opinion they came out flat, uninspired and were maybe still riding high from last weeks victory over the New England Patriots. Today head coach Joe Philbin and his staff really need to look in the mirror, ask the question what can we do better as a staff to not have the same let down this upcoming Sunday. The focus now must shift to September 21st, 2014 at 4:25pm against the Kansas City Chiefs who are coming off a loss to the Denver Broncos and now have a record of (0-2). I think we will see a Miami Dolphins team that will be angry, hungry and excited to prove to everyone that this will not be a repeat of last years team. I will be looking to see how Ryan Tannehill can bounce back from a rough road loss and if he can elevate his game to again regain confidence in himself.

2014 Season Opener versus New England Patriots

Posted by:

The Miami Dolphins have plenty to feel good about today after yesterdays victory over the New England Patriots 33-20. The game couldn't of started any better, started with a good defensive stand, blocked punt that was recovered and the offense converting it into a touchdown. The Offense did a good job all game of moving the ball up an down the field, the negative was they had three straight drives in the first half with turnovers and all three drives looked as if they were leading to scores.

Miami Dolphins offensive line played outstanding in the run game, pass protection was much improved only giving up one sack and Branden Albert showed why he is a premier left tackle in the NFL. Center Samson Satele held his own against defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, Ja'wuan James the rookie right tackle played a very good game considering this was his first official start in an NFL season proving he was the right first round choice for this team. The offense looked dynamic an unpredictable as a matter of fact the offense got different players involved; Mike Wallace, Knowshon Moreno, Lamar Miller, Charles Clay, Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson all made contributions.

Ryan Tannehill had a up an down game his short to intermediate throws were pretty good, but his deep throws were still coming up short and or behind the receivers, offensive coordinator Bill Lazor
will make it a point of emphasis to focus on those issues in preparation for the Buffalo Bills.

The defense was solid an quite impressive all game playing stout against the run, applying pressure with minimal blitzing using their four down linemen to get after Tom Brady. Cameron Wake, Olivier Vernon, undrafted rookie FA Chris McCain who had a block punt an sack and can not leave out Jared Odrick and Randy Starks working hard in the trenches. You have to tip your cap to the back up linebackers who stepped up for three injured starting linebackers Dannell Ellerbe, Phillip Wheeler and Koa Misi and it will need to continue because reports have come out that Danell Ellerbe is out for the season and placed on injured reserve. The defensive backs as a whole played well especially Cortland Finnegan an Will Davis who were targeted often and did not back down, overall excellent effort as a defensive unit.

To sum it up the Miami Dolphins gave us all a glimpse of what this team can accomplish when all three phases of the game work in unison offense, defense and special teams all contributed to the win. Now it is time to shift the focus an attention to the Buffalo Bills who are coming off an unexpected win over the Chicago Bears and this game is another division foe. The Buffalo Bills will provide a better opportunity to see how our defense can defend the run and show if the offensive line can protect Ryan Tannehill against an overall tough defense who stops the run & rushes the passer well.

2014 Miami Dolphins Preview

The Miami Dolphins seem to be heading into the 2014 season more focused and vested into bringing back the wining tradition that this organization is use to. The players, coaches and upper management have made it a point to commit to one another on & off the field. The team has adopted the slogan "Stronger Together", you can see it on the practice field, on the sidelines, during the preseason games and in general whenever they talk about the team & organization as a whole.

This is Dennis Hickey's first year as general manager for the Miami Dolphins and up to this point has done an outstanding job of overhauling the team with talent. Dennis Hickey wasted no time once he was brought on board by attacking free agency adding players of need, the big splash was the signing of left tackle Branden Albert who has been all the Dolphins expected. Ultimately Judgement was going to be given on the draft and he proved to us what some knew, but many did not and that is Dennis Hickey has an eye for talent. The priority was offensive line and he began the draft by taking in the first round with the nineteenth pick right tackle Ju'wuan James who so far has been solid throughout the preseason. Many of the Players drafted this year by Dennis Hickey have made contributions to the team whether at their positions or on special teams all throughout training camp and preseason games. Another player that was drafted by Hickey is wide receiver Jarvis Landry from LSU who was taken in the second round pick sixty three and he has been playing pretty good, making tough receptions, returning kicks and just seems to be a player that will develop into something special.

 This is year three for quarterback Ryan Tannehill, there was limited growth with Mike Sherman as his offensive coordinator, but now under new offensive coordinator Bill Lazor he seems to be doing more as far as going through his reads, getting the ball out quicker and moving around the the pocket.
I am the first to admit there are no more excuses for Ryan Tannehill, the offensive line looks better, there is depth at wide receiver with Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson, Rishard Matthews and Rookie Jarvis Landry, the running backs are Lamar Miller, Knowshon Moreno and Damien Williams, the tight ends Charles Clay, Dion Sims and Harold Hoskins.  An important point to bring up is also the style of offense that Bill Lazor brings which should fit the speed an quickness that is on the team.

The defense in my opinion should be even better, I have them being a top ten defense that can continue to cause turnovers and bring pressure especially with their talented defensive line. There were some additions to the defense in the off season; defensive tackle Earl Mitchell, safety Louis Delmas, cornerback Cortland Finnegan and the move to resign defensive tackle Randy Starks was huge. The defense will also benefit from the young cornerbacks Will Davis and Jamar Taylor
who seem to be healthy and both had very good training camps.

The Questions that still remain unclear are; will coach Bill Lazor's offense bring versatility and in turn translate to more touchdowns? Will making the move of linebacker Koa Misi from outside to middle linebacker and moving Danell Ellerbe from middle to outside linebacker stabilize the linebacker unit? Will cornerback Cortland Finnegan regain his Pro Bowl caliber style of play? Will the suspensions of defensive end Dion Jordan and safety Reshard Jones have a major impact?

In my opinion the Miami Dolphins will have a pretty solid year and yes make the playoffs, I might be alone in this sentiment nationwide, but I see a pretty good offensive line, I see an offense with additional weapons & dynamic offensive style, a top ten defense and I finally see a better collaboration between coaching staff and management. I believe at the end of the season the Miami Dolphins will finish 10-6 and in the playoffs.
