This past sunday could not have gone any better for a football team as it did for the Miami Dolphins, the team rallied around their head coach Joe Philbin. If you ever wondered what getting dominated looked like then I hope you watched the Miami Dolphins annihilate the San Diego Chargers thirty-seven to zero. I have to applaud the dolphins on a complete game from preparation throughout the week through quarters one thru four it was complete ownership of another team in every facet of the game. I must also commend and apply might deepest condolences to one Mr. Joe Philbin who even after learning of his fathers passing found a way to gather himself and lead a group of men into battle.
I have to start with the offense and say thank you, that is the team I know you have, obviously will not be thirty-seven to zero every time, but there will be better and more consistent results if they continue to ascend sky's the limit. Ryan Tannehill is to be praised after this win, because if the fans can pile on when things are bleak then let's celebrate him when he does well and provides hope at a position that the team has not had in a while. The young quarterback threw for 288 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions, while continuing to use his legs to scramble and buy time in the pocket while finding an open receiver. Lamar Miller continues to run well on 11 carries 49 yards and one touchdown , although he did have a slight set back in the second half when he was injured due to shoulder separation, Damien Williams stepped in and as a team finished with 135 yards rushing on the day. The passing game was well distributed hitting ten different receivers most notably tight end Charles Clay five receptions 65 yards one touchdown, rookie wide receiver Jarvis Landry five receptions 46 yards one touchdown, wide receiver Brian Hartline with five receptions 50 yards and contributing with a touchdown catch wide receiver Rishard Matthews. The offensive of line continues to impress already leaps and bounds better than a year ago, the unit continues to open running lanes and allowing time in the pocket for quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The offensive line continues to get better with every passing game, this game allowing zero sacks which in turn allowed Tannehill time to maneuver around the pocket and find open receivers or at times to tuck and run.
The life line of this team is the defense who just comes off pitching a shutout against a pretty good team, offense and quarterback. The defense should be known as the "krakken", because when they release their front seven on any team they swallow you whole and just create pure havoc. The defensive line continues to apply pressure with their front four, as a defense of unit they finished with four sacks coming by; Earl Mitchell, Cameron Wake, Randy Starks and Olivier Vernon. The secondary continues to go under the radar nationally, but the duo of Cortland Finnegan and Brent Grimes at the cornerback position has become a strong point of this team. The secondary came up with three interceptions, Brent Grimes had two of them, while safety Reshad Jones had the other. There is not much else to say that has not been said about this defensive unit, I mean they are fast, ferocious, aggressive, opportunistic and they are just "stronger together".
I am usually the first to say that coach Joe Philbin is unanimated and uninspiring, but this past sunday the coach was all business, showed passion arguing calls, wore his emotions on his sleeve, I'm sure took inspiration from his dad considering his recent passing, coach fought all game for every inch and I believe that lead his coaches to coach better and motivate their players, I'm sure this lead to the players looking one another in the face asking if coach is here to fight then so were they. The assistant coaches deserve plenty of credit putting together a game plan that worked flawlessly against the Chargers, offensively anything and everything that the Miami Dolphins wanted to do they did whether that meant running or passing and the defense was just swarming, attacking and bottom was just making plays.
The Miami Dolphins have a tough matchup this coming Sunday November 9th against the Detroit Lions, game will be played in Detroit. As per some reports coming out seems like Calvin "Megatron" Johnson will be back, which will pose a challenge for the defense; especially Brent Grimes who will be tasked to cover the receiver. The positive is that just a few games back Brent Grimes had to cover Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jefferey of the Chicago Bears and did quite well where size did not seem to matter. My deepest condolences once again go out to coach Joe Philbin and his family, it never gets easier to lose a loved one at any stage of life.
